Biography
Elena Stein, PhD, is a staff psychologist in the Alcohol, Drug, and Addiction Outpatient Program outpatient clinic and an instructor in psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, part-time. Dr. Stein provides evaluation and psychotherapy to individuals and groups, specializing in cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based interventions for substance use disorders and co-occurring trauma, mood, and anxiety disorders.
Dr. Stein is interested in expanding evidence-based, harm reduction-oriented, and contextually informed care to individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders. Her research interests are in understanding individual factors that underlie the development, maintenance, and treatment of substance use disorders, as well as combatting health disparities in substance use disorder health care access and outcomes. She has published peer-reviewed research and presented at national conferences in these areas.
