Biography

Beier Yao, PhD, is a clinician-scientist in the Division of Psychotic Disorders. She has expertise in neuroimaging, electrophysiology, eye tracking, and psychophysics, with a background in clinical psychology, neuroscience, and statistical modeling. Dr. Yao uses a multimodal approach to study the neurobiological mechanisms of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Her current research is focused on interoception (the processing, integration, interpretation, and regulation of bodily signals) and its relationship with symptoms and functioning in psychosis.

Dr. Yao’s research has been supported by awards from McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School, as well as a NARSAD Young Investigator Grant from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation. Her work has also been recognized with a President’s Award from the Society for Research in Psychopathology. Dr. Yao is a clinical psychologist specialized in evidence-based interventions for individuals with psychotic disorders, depression, and anxiety.
