McLean Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham and a psychiatric affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has once again been named the #2 hospital in the nation for psychiatric care by U.S. News & World Report, according to its 2025-2026 “Best Hospitals” rankings.
This is McLean’s 24th consecutive year as the top freestanding psychiatric hospital and the 34th straight year being ranked among the top five psychiatric programs in the country. The top-ranked psychiatric programs in the country are determined by surveys of board-certified psychiatrists throughout the country.
“All of us at McLean are passionate about improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness, and we’re honored that U.S. News & World Report has once again recognized that commitment,” said Scott L. Rauch, MD, president and psychiatrist in chief of McLean Hospital.
“Across our programs and campuses, we focus on delivering the best care possible, advancing scientific discovery, training the next generation, and advocating for those living with mental illness here and around the world. I’m profoundly grateful to our 2,700 staff members—whose compassion, expertise, and shared purpose make this recognition possible.”
“In addition to McLean being ranked second in the country, I’m proud that Massachusetts General Hospital’s psychiatric services were ranked number one. This recognition speaks to the deep and enduring commitment across Mass General Brigham to provide exceptional psychiatric care,” said Rauch.
“As the need for mental health services continues to grow—here in Massachusetts and globally—we are deeply committed to the evidence-based programs we’ve built and continue to expand across the system. This work has never been more important.”
McLean is proud to be part of other honors for Mass General Brigham this year. Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Mass Eye and Ear, and Spaulding Rehabilitation were once again named among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and each also earned high marks in multiple clinical specialties.
