McLean Hospital is delighted to announce the appointment of Kristine M. Trustey to its Board of Trustees.
“Kris brings a strong commitment to advancing mental health care, research, and education, and I could not be more thrilled that she is joining our already stellar board,” said Carol Vallone, chair of the McLean Board of Trustees.
“Kris’s inspired leadership of our recent campaign, her generosity of time and resources, and her deep knowledge of McLean bring tremendous value to our board.”
Kris’s distinguished record of service to McLean includes eight years as chair of the McLean National Council, where her natural optimism, warmth, and creativity helped strengthen engagement among McLean’s most dedicated supporters nationwide. On stepping down from this role in January, her husband, Sean McGraw, assumed the position of chair, ensuring continuity of leadership.
Kris has also served as co-chair of the Women’s Mental Health Leadership Council alongside her fellow National Council member Carroll Pierce since its inception in 2016. In this role, she has been a powerful advocate for advancing women’s mental health, helping to elevate awareness, foster dialogue by sharing her personal story, and support cutting-edge clinical and research initiatives.

Among Kris’s transformative contributions was her decision to endow a chair for the chief of McLean’s Division of Women’s Mental Health. Established in 2016, this gift ensures enduring leadership in women’s mental health. Division Chief Shelly F. Greenfield, MD, MPH, serves as the current and inaugural incumbent of the chair.
Together with Sean, Kris played a highly visible and instrumental role as co-chair of McLean’s landmark The Way Forward Campaign. Their leadership helped galvanize more than $276 million in philanthropic support from the McLean community, contributing to the campaign’s historic success and advancing the hospital’s vision for the future.
The Trustey-McGraw family’s extraordinary generosity was central to the campaign’s impact, reflecting a shared belief in McLean’s mission and setting an example around the importance of investing in mental health care, particularly for children and adolescents.
McLean President and COO Susan M. Szulewski, MD, MBA, expressed enthusiasm for Kris’s appointment. “Kris’s warmth is legendary, and her steadfast dedication to McLean is inspirational,” she said. “I look forward with excitement to working with her to advance McLean’s mission.”
“Like so many families, mine has been touched by mental health challenges, and we were fortunate to experience the extraordinary care at McLean—from diagnosis through treatment,” said Kris.
“I am humbled and honored to join McLean’s Board of Trustees, and eager to learn and serve in this new role as we confront some of the most pressing issues in mental health. This is an exciting moment for McLean under the leadership of Szulewski, and I look forward to working with her and the entire team in the years to come.”
